Non-Invasive Diagnostic Imaging

Ultrasound is a technology that uses sound waves to create real-time images (or sonograms) of your pet’s internal structures. It’s a safe, painless, and completely non-invasive method to examine your pet’s organs, helping us diagnose conditions with accuracy and speed. From emergencies to organ health, we can see below the surface with our ultrasound equipment to provide quality veterinary care for your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Ultrasound

Will a cardiologist be viewing my pet?

If your pet is receiving an echocardiogram with us, a certified cardiologist will review their images and provide targeted medical advised on their condition and care plan directly to your vet.

Are there side effects of ultrasound?

No, ultrasound is a very safe and effective diagnostic tool. It does not produce radiation and has no side effects.

Is it painful?

Generally, ultrasound is not painful. However, if your pet has a painful or uncomfortable condition, we may recommend sedation to prevent causing further discomfort while scanning and to help your pet relax during the procedure.

How should I prepare my pet?

We recommend fasting for 8-12 hours prior to scheduled ultrasounds. This allows us to use sedation if needed and also keeps the intestinal tracts empty so we can better see the organs we are looking for.

How long does this take?

Ultrasounds usually take between 20-80 minutes depending on the pet and the condition we are assessing. We receive a report back from the radiologist within 48 hours, often sooner.
